French Bread

2 T yeast
2 1/2 c. warm water
     Let sit for 5 minutes
1 T salt
1 T butter
6-7 cups flour
Mix and knead until smooth and elastic. Let raise for 1 hour. Make loaves and put in pan on cornmeal. Let raise for 45 minutes. Bake 450 degrees for 15-20 minutes. During the last five minutes brush loaves with an egg wash.
